DevOps Engineer
About the Role
We're looking for a senior DevOps engineer who has built infrastructure from the ground up for high-growth startups. This isn't a maintenance role. We need someone who can architect and implement production-grade systems that will scale Luma to millions of learners across Africa. You'll own our entire AWS infrastructure and set the foundation for our next phase of growth.
What You'll Do
- Architect and build our DevOps infrastructure on AWS
- Design and implement CI/CD pipelines for automated, reliable deployments
- Build infrastructure that supports AI-native applications at scale
- Implement observability, monitoring, and alerting systems
- Establish security best practices and ensure production-grade reliability
- Set up infrastructure as code and automated provisioning
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience building DevOps systems from scratch for growth-stage or scaling startups
- Deep AWS expertise. Our entire stack is AWS.
- Experience with AI-native infrastructure. You understand the unique DevOps requirements for AI/ML workloads.
- Enterprise-grade mindset. You've built systems designed for scale, reliability, and security.
- Strong experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure as code (Terraform)
- Expertise in CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment strategies
- Experience with AI-native DevOps tools and practices to improve workflows and operational efficiencies
- Ideally based in South Africa (remote work with regular in-person collaboration)

General Developer with AI/ML Experience
About the Role
We're building an AI-powered education platform that's transforming how students learn across Africa. We need talented developers who are passionate about AI/ML and want to use their skills to make a real impact. You'll work on exciting challenges involving natural language processing, recommendation systems, and building scalable educational tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain AI/ML features for our learning platform
- Build and optimize RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) systems for curriculum alignment
- Work on natural language processing for multi-language support
- Develop full-stack features from front-end to back-end
- Optimize application performance and user experience
- Collaborate with the team to design and implement new features
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical decisions
Requirements
- Strong AI/ML experience (this is critical)
- Proficiency in Python and modern web development frameworks
- Experience with AI/ML libraries (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, etc.)
- Understanding of LLMs, prompt engineering, and AI best practices
- Full-stack development skills (React, Next.js, Node.js, or similar)
- Experience with databases (SQL and NoSQL)
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
- Ideally based in South Africa (remote work with occasional in-person meetings)
Highly Valuable
- Experience building RAG systems
- Experience with vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, etc.)
- NLP and language model fine-tuning experience
- Experience with OpenAI API or similar AI platforms
- Previous EdTech or education-related project experience
- Startup experience and passion for social impact
